Victor Martins has been announced as the latest addition to the Williams Racing Driver Academy, a significant milestone in his motorsport career. The French driver, who races for ART Grand Prix, is known for his impressive track record in single-seater racing, highlighted by his triumph in the 2022 Formula 3 championship.
At just 23 years old, Martins has already made a name for himself in Formula 2, securing two wins and an impressive 14 podium finishes over his first two seasons, including four pole positions. This momentum carried into the 2025 season, where he kick-started his campaign with a solid performance, achieving his fifth pole position in Melbourne.
Martins expressed his excitement about joining Williams, stating, "I’m super happy to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy. This is a new chapter for me, but my goal remains the same – to push myself to the limit, both as a person and as a racing driver, and to make it to Formula 1."
He further remarked on Williams' storied legacy in motorsport, noting, "Williams is an iconic team with an incredible history, and I’m confident this is the best place to be to help me achieve my goals."
With this new role, Martins will follow in the footsteps of fellow driver Luke Browning, the other member of the Williams junior team currently competing in Formula 2. The partnership aims to provide essential guidance and training for Martins, enhancing his skills both on and off the racetrack.
Sven Smeets, the Sporting Director for Williams Racing, shared his enthusiasm for Martins' addition to the Academy, saying, "We’re thrilled to welcome Victor to the Williams Racing Driver Academy. He has repeatedly demonstrated that he is a talented driver who is capable of winning championships. We will continue to support Victor’s development on and off the track as part of the Academy and look forward to working with him in 2025."
As part of his integration into the program, Martins, along with Browning, will have the opportunity to test out the Williams' 2023-spec FW45 at Monza this weekend. This testing event is part of the team’s Testing of Previous Cars Programme (TPC), providing valuable experience that will contribute to their growth as drivers.
In summary, Martins’ new affiliation with Williams Racing Driver Academy is poised to be a pivotal step in his racing journey. With hopes for a successful 2025 season ahead, Martins aims to focus on winning the Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship while maximizing this significant opportunity. The collaboration between Martins and Williams may well be instrumental in shaping the future landscape of Formula 1 talent.
