In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Santiago Ramos from Van Amersfoort Racing clinched his first win in the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the Melbourne Sprint Race. Starting from reverse grid pole on March 15, 2025, Ramos demonstrated impressive pace and strategy, successfully holding off the relentless efforts of his competitors.

"It feels amazing to finally get this win; it’s something I have dreamed of since I started racing," said Santiago Ramos, reflecting on the significance of this victory in his career.

Right from the start, Ramos maintained his position, confidently leading the pack as the lights went out. Behind him, Martinius Stenshorne, the talented McLaren Development Driver, showed aggressive intent in the opening lap, quickly moving up to second place. "I knew I had to get a good start and stay right on Santiago’s tail for as long as I could," Stenshorne stated, acknowledging the challenge he faced.

During the initial stages, a fierce battle unfolded amongst the competitors, with Stenshorne, Matías Zagazeta, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, and Roman Bilinski swapping positions multiple times as they vied for the best possible positioning behind Ramos. The excitement was palpable as spectators witnessed the dramatic maneuvering behind the lead car.

An early Safety Car intervention played a pivotal role in the race dynamics, allowing Stenshorne to close in on Ramos. Despite being within DRS range, Stenshorne struggled to find the opportunity to overtake. "I was right there, the pace was good, but chasing Santiago wasn't easy," Stenshorne admitted.

Ramos showed his maturity and composure when Stenshorne forced him into a slight mistake on Lap 13. "That was a tense moment for sure, but I managed to recover quickly and refocus on my race," Ramos remarked. Indeed, this brief instance of pressure was the only time Ramos appeared vulnerable, as he skillfully regained his composure to hold off the challenge.

Continuing to maintain a steady lead, Ramos's control of the race never wavered, even after another Safety Car restart brought the pack closer once more. His victory was not only a testament to his driving skills but also an indication of the growing potential he has within the championship.

Following the race, Bilinski, despite not being able to challenge Ramos and Stenshorne for the lead, secured a commendable third place, earning his maiden podium finish in the championship on his debut. "To finish third in such a competitive field is incredible, and I’m excited for what’s next," Bilinski shared his enthusiasm.

With this race in Melbourne, Ramos has officially made his mark in the FIA Formula 3 landscape. As the series progresses, he aims to build on this momentum and compete for more victories. "This is just the beginning; I want to keep pushing for wins and ultimately reach Formula 1," Ramos stated, looking ahead with clear ambition.

The victory not only serves as a career milestone for Ramos but also paints a vibrant picture of his potential future as he continues his journey on the Road to F1.

As the Formula 3 season advances, the competition remains fierce, and fans can expect more thrilling races ahead. With drivers like Ramos and Stenshorne at the forefront, the series is set for an exhilarating continuation of its championship battles.
