After the Hungarian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri's position at the top of the 2025 Formula 1 drivers' championship has been slightly compromised, as his lead has decreased to a mere nine points. The young Australian driver now holds 284 points, having won six races this season.
Lando Norris, Piastri's teammate at McLaren, clinched his fifth victory of the season in Hungary, vitalizing his pursuit for the title. "I'm really pleased with how the race went, particularly the strategy we employed. The one-stop worked perfectly for us," said Norris. His win demonstrates the excellent performance of the McLaren team, reinforcing their dominance this season.
Max Verstappen, driving for Oracle Red Bull Racing, experienced a difficult race weekend, finishing in ninth place and holding onto third position in the championship with 187 points. Despite a disappointing outcome in Hungary, Verstappen remains optimistic about future races. "It's been tough, but I know we can bounce back from this," he stated.
George Russell of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team stands just 15 points behind Verstappen, after securing his sixth podium finish of the year. He expressed confidence going forward, saying, "Each race, we learn more and continue to improve the car's performance. We are closing the gap," highlighting the competitive spirit within the upper tier of drivers.
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari HP continues to hold fifth place in the standings, significantly ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who sits at 109 points. "This weekend was challenging for us with performance issues. We need to analyze and come back stronger for the next races," Leclerc remarked, indicating a tough road ahead for the Ferrari team.
Moving on to the constructors' championship, McLaren is proving to be an unstoppable force this season, now boasting a total of 559 points. Following a remarkable 1-2 finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the team has expanded its lead considerably. "Our strategy and teamwork were really highlighted today, and it’s a fantastic feeling to see both cars up there," celebrated McLaren team principal.
Close behind them is Scuderia Ferrari, with a total of 260 points, but they face increasing pressure from Mercedes, which has converted its performance into 236 points and moved into third place overall. "We're in a tight battle, and every point counts moving forward," said a confident Mercedes representative.
Oracle Red Bull Racing maintains a steady fourth position with 194 points, while Williams sits comfortably in fifth place with 70 points. Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team finished with two cars in the top seven in Hungary, showcasing the potential for further improvement. Aston Martin's team principal stated, "We are pleased with the progress, but there’s still a long way to go."
As the teams head into the summer break, the competition is tightening, leaving plenty of excitement for the remaining races in the season. With the stakes high, the performances in the upcoming Grands Prix will be crucial for deciding the championship outcomes. Who will seize the momentum in the next race? Only time will tell as the teams prepare for the battles that lie ahead.
